I grew up here, they're friendly (except a few haha) and they found a lost package for me over the phone while I was disabled. Oh and they answered their phone right away :) they're alright in my book by far.
Packages are confirmed here via phone call. Postal worker lies and says there's nothing with my name. Call again, verified. Still not there when I walk in. I just watched the older male worker act like a total jerk to an elderly woman who was confused. This is the worst government service in the country!
I've lived in Pagosa for much of my life and have come to realize that usually when some of the "grumpier" dudes at the counter are not very nice it's because the customer is painstakingly fake-nice or has issues with their grumpiness as well. The post office folks have to deal with a lot of B S... they have a right not to be all Brady-Bunch-y. That said, there are some real issues with forwarding here in Pagosa. I'm assuming this is an organizational issue. Whatever the case, my family's forwarding service gets messed up at least 90% of the time (we have to forward mail about once per year or so). Also, for whatever reason, my sister's letters were being opened with a letter opener before being delivered to her post office for a duration of about 4 months while she was visiting.... not sure what that's all about, but was pretty creepy. As for the slowness of their service, I often stare on at them in envy that they can deal with so many different people and scenarios at such a steady pace, without losing their cool. Pagosa is a special place, and it takes a special person to be able to put up with stuck-up, oftentimes-nauseating-sense-of-entitled retired folks 8hrs/day, 5day/wk.
Having lived in Pagosa Springs for about 5 years now and running my business through the post office there, I believe a lot of the complaints here are unjustified. In my experience, if you are pleasant and reasonable with the folks there, they respond pleasantly and reasonably. I have personally seen them deal in a professional and kind manner with some extremely difficult customers. Although the lines can be long around noon and the end of the day, they work steadily to help people as quickly as possible. Personally, they have routed some mail to my PO Box that a larger, less caring organization would have simply returned - probably one of the benefits of a small town.
Post Mistress Deeanna always there for, me going over and beyond with great service...only one clerk have iencountered not helpful and grumpy at times!
