My poor pup got a twig in his eyeball, and the amazing Dr was able to remove it without him having any permanent damage. And he came home that afternoon!! I couldn't be happier!! If you are looking for a good avian vet in the Pagosa Springs area for your pet bird, this is a great place! I am new to Pagosa Springs from Los Angeles where we had rescued dozens of injured, orphaned and abandoned parrots. They all made the move out here with us to Colorado and we were concerned that there would not be a vet nearby to provide care for any of them should they need it. However, we have a small green cheek conure that injured her leg and Dr. Nannette Wagner-Lockard was able to squeeze her in for an appointment same-day and provided her with excellent treatment. It's rare to find someone who knows and understands birds and the proper care needed to treat them, especially in a small town like Pagosa Springs, but Dr. Wagner-Lockard knew exactly what to do and how to handle her. I was also impressed with the helpful and friendly front desk staff, as well as the vet's assistant who seemed more than friendly and eager to learn. Our experience here was nothing short of great and we will be bringing all of our birds and animals here for care going forward. We are so relieved to know we have a trusted veterinarian close by!
We awoke one morning to find our cat unable to breathe well. The ER vet on call was Dr. Nanette Lockard of Pagosa Veterinary Clinic. She saw Carlo right away. She ran a few tests very quickly (blood work, O2 levels, x-rays). Carlo was put into an oxygen holding cage immediately, as that was the only way he could get enough oxygen. There were other stages and tests to determine what exactly was going on. Dr. Lockard also does ultrasound tests, but immediately scheduled an ultrasound with a vet who specializes in heart issues. (Fortunately for us, he lives in nearby Chama). The results clearly identified Carlo’s exact problems – he had two damaged heart valves caused from an infectious source – and the vet could now prescribe a treatment plan. Without knowing exactly the problem, no treatment plan could be prescribed as giving Carlo the wrong treatment could harm him more. Unfortunately, Carlo’s heart was too far gone, and our little guy wasn’t able to handle any more. We were devastated by his loss, but grateful beyond words that we were able to get him to such a qualified and caring vet practice. He was cared for by Dr. Lockard and her incredible staff as though he were their own pet. We are so grateful for the care our boy received.
I was visiting from out of town and my pup had to have some stitches removed. Called and was able to get an appointment the same day and was treated with friendly service. The Doctor took great care of my little buddy and was in and out with no problem. Any of my vets needs in pagosa will be handled at this location going forward.
