We drove up on a Saturday in late August for a kayaking trip on Williams Creek Reservoir. The cabin was easy to find in a beautiful area, only a short 10 minute drive from the water. Williams Creek Reservoir is a stunning lake that was very quiet & uncrowded.
-There are 2 showers in the lodge & they were both clean & spacious. Never had to wait in line to use the shower or bathroom.
Stopped in almost daily to replenish our ice and basic supplies. The staff here is super fun and friendly. We camped nearby, but loved our visits to the store to meet fellow travelers and catch up with the great employees.
-No extra charge for pets.
-The tiny plywood cabin, it felt like we were sleeping in a shed.
-It is a very small area, RV’s & cabins were on top of each other. Maybe 5 feet between our cabin, the RV next to us & the cabin on the other side. We would have preferred more privacy & space.
-The lodge was a short 2 minute walk from our cabin. It was very clean, had a stove, sink & cooking area, no microwave or fridge. Plenty of games & things for kids.
It was a little too cold for camping so we decided to splurge on a small cabin to stay warm. We rented the Ponderosa cabin, a small one room cabin with 2 double beds & a toilet. If you’re used to “rustic”, think a few levels below rustic if you decide to rent this one. It was basically a plywood shed, not painted or finished on the inside. It was clean, the beds were comfortable but we thought $60 was excessive for an unfinished cabin.
-Owners were kind, friendly & when we arrived late after the store closed, they called to let us know where they would leave a key.
-You will have to drive 12 miles on a dirt road to get here. It is a good dirt road, but still, a dirt road.
When we go back to kayak on Williams Creek, we will most likely go earlier in the year & camp at Teal campground, which is a beautiful little campground right on the lake. We could probably live with the plywood cabin for a night or two, but really disliked being right on top of other cabins & RV’s.
-There is a large cow pasture right across from our cabin. We thought it was kind of fun, but some might not enjoy it as much.
The not-so-good
The good...
-There was a picnic table & babbling brook right behind out cabin. It was nice to fall asleep to the sound of the water.
Very nice people. Electric and water hookups, cute little store. Outfitters ranch just down the road. Clubhhouse has hot showers! Had a great time!
It's past the middle of nowhere. I've been here twice and nothing has changed, just like I like. I recommend renting a cabin.
-The campground was dead quite & peaceful. We arrived around 7 PM, left at 9 AM & it was so quite that we whispered the entire time.
Great place in the middle of nowhere.
